Abstract
The authors estimated the serum uric acid of 95 hypertensive patients who were admitted in Hanil Hospital and compared with that of 51 normal persons. The change of serum uric acid after oral administration of various antihypertensive drugs such as chlorothiazide, aldomet¢ç, reserpine and catapres¢ç in essential hypertension was observed and its possible mechanism was discussed.
The results were as follows:
1) Normal value of serum uric acid in Korean normal persons was 4.32¡¾0. 67mg%.
2) The incidence of hyperuricemia in essential hypertension was 70% and mean value of serum uric acid in hypertensive patients was higher than that of normal persons.
The hyperuricemia in hypertensive patients was related to renal function and considered to be due to decreased renal excretory mechanism of uric acid.
3) High incidence of hyperuricemia after oral administration of chlorothiazide was due to the effect of chlorothiazide on renal tubular transport mechanism of uric acid.
4) The level of serum uric acid was not influenced by administration of aldomet¢ç or reserpine.
5) The serum uric acid tended to increase after using catapres¢ç which was considered to affect renal tubular excretory function of uric acid but the further study was required.
